SJU Cheer

So this is the first attempt at my movie.  It is not even close to being finished, however, I spent a lot of time trying to pull this together.  There are plenty of things I would like to add including more footage in order to reach 2 to 3 minutes and a voice over.  I think voice overs are very effective and I would love to have that in the background of my movie.  This voice over will most likely just be speaking about the dedication and hard work that goes into cheerleading because many people underestimate what we do.  Anyways I hope ya enjoy =)

Beginning my first movie:

When we received this communications assignment to make our very own movie, I freaked out!  I have never made a movie before and I had definitely never used iMovie.  I wanted my little sister to be the star because she would absolutely be perfect for something like this, however, I did not have time to go back to New York in order to film her.

I decided I would film a few of my practices and see where that would take me.  Cheerleading is something I have been doing for about 7 or 8 years now and I find it fascinating.  The tumbling and the stunting take power, trust, and courage.  A flyer needs to be fearless because although it may look easy, these stunts can be terrifying.  I also took a look at a few Maya Deren films that Dr. Knight requested and was greatly inspired by them.

Someone once said, “To write well, you have to write what you know.”  Although movie making is not writing, it is another form of art and the artist is trying to tell a story.  Well cheerleading has been a part of my life for quite some time now and I believe that I know it pretty well.  I am hoping that this movie turns out great and if it does not I will just have to try again!
